(More customer reviews)I am a long-time fan of Leslie's, and own many of her workouts. I just picked this one up, and it doesn't disappoint. This workout is much better organized than some of her other workouts that have been released lately, and I found the pace very brisk and her cueing much more on point than it has been. The main reason I bought it is because I like her 5-mile walks on the days when I want a challenge.
Here's the breakdown:
The Good:
1) It has a good warm-up and cool-down, plus some stretching at the end.
2) The pace is nice and brisk, for the most part. My heart rate was elevated; I'm an intermediate/advanced exerciser, so my heart rate wasn't through the roof. If you're looking for something that leaves you almost breathless, look elsewhere. I use Leslie's workouts for my lighter days in between my strength & resistance training/high-impact cardio days, so I wasn't expecting my heart rate to be too high.
3) She throws in some new combo moves this time around, mostly combos of moves you already know. For example, walking up 4 and back four, and then shifting your weight side-to-side, as well as knee lifts with side steps in between. Nothing too mind-bending, but it is nice to have some variation in her workouts.
4) Leslie doesn't stay on one move too long; she keeps it moving right along, moving from one move to the next. I find that this prevented some of the boredom that sets in for me on her other longer workouts.
5) She uses the toning bands quite nicely. The kit comes with two of them--a pink one, and a green one that has more resistance. I liked the fact that they came with two different resistances, and she does use each of them separately for different moves. Sometimes she uses them together for extra resistance. I liked being able to choose which resistance I wanted to do for each exercise.
6) There's some new music in the first 3 miles (after this, it's back to music you've heard before if you've done a lot of her workouts).
7) Leslie usually has mile markers, but I liked the half-mile markers in each mile.
8) I love the fact that you can choose from any of the five miles. On the weekends I usually do all 5 miles of one of her five-mile workouts, but on the weekdays when I get up early to workout, I don't always have time. So, I like being able to just do 3 miles--whether that be the first three or the last three. If you choose the third mile, it will play the third, fourth, and the fifth without having to go back to the main menu.Needs Improvement:
1) Her cueing, while better, is still a little abrupt at times. I find that, when Leslie is by herself, sometimes she doesn't give much warning before she starts a move.
2) Sometimes when she starts a move, the name of the move will show up on a purple banner across the bottom of the screen. Experienced walkers with Leslie won't need these; in fact, they often obscure any moves she's doing with her feet. On some of the newer moves, I found they got in the way.
3) Leslie uses the toning bands in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th miles. I loved the exercises she did, but I thought they could have been used a bit more. (But then again, I'm a resistance training junkie; I always think they could be used more often!)
4) The bonus segment (Total Body Slim Down) shows Leslie along just using the toning bands. While it shows some good moves, it's awful short--5 minutes or so. Overall, I really like this workout--what needs improvement is minor, because the workout itself is solid. I will definitely be putting it in my rotation, either as a full 5-mile workout on the weekends or by doing some of the miles during the week. Pick this up if you have the chance, especially if you're a fan of Leslie. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
